|*** Jack Rootkin-Gray Wins White Jersey in UCI stage race***
A big week of racing for Solihulls young superstar Jack Rootkin-Gray last week. He raced the UCI 2.1 Sint-Martinusprijis Kontich, 4 day, 5 stage race. Guesting for the South East BC squad, he was able to take the Young Rider Classification & finish 4th overall in General Classification.
The first stage was a TTT which Jacks Team won! The second stage was a 120km RR in which 5 of the 6 BC boys got into the break & stayed away, with Jack gaining time on his white jersey rivals. In the ITT the next day Jack finished 10th, 30sec down on the winner but extended his lead in the White Jersey competition. A crash in the stage 4 finish, which he was held up by & not involved in, knackered Jacks chances of a top 3 finish on the road stage after the ITT. However he was given the same time as the winner. On the last stage Jack rode defensively & finished strongly to Cement his win overall in the Young Rider, & 4th place overall. A massive & brilliant achievement! Well Done!
It was a Busy week for our Veteran Racers too. On Staurday Paul Mann was 3rd D cat in the LVRC criterium race at Stourport Sports Club.
On Sunday, The richest race in the LVRC calender, The Moda RR took place. Stuart Jameson was 3rd B cat & Simon Hill was 5th . Adrian Byrne finished in the bunch. Also with bunch finishes were Lee Forrest in the C cat, Richard Blackman in the D cat & Ian Cowan in the E cat.
Adrian Byrne the traveled to Stourport on Tuesday Night & got his 3rd cat license with 2 top 10 finishes!
Paul Mann & Russell Perry raced the TLI RR at Inkberrow on Wednesday evening at the same time & on some of the same roads as David Fellows, who was racing on the K34/25 25mi TT course, A422 from Weetheley to Worcester & back. Luckily the 2 races never came into contact. Paul & Russ finished in the Bunch whilst David set the Course Record on the undulating course, 53.43 was his time.
Once again Solihulls Youth were out in force at the Youth Races at Curborough on Saturday morning.
Akhil Kolnaty had his best race this year finishing 2nd just a tyres width behind the Winner in an exciting sprint finish & just in front of his team mate Ben Woodhouse in 3rd. Jack Alexander also featured in that U14 Race. It was Business as usual for Ella Tandy & Zoe Parker in the U12 girls both Finishing on the podium again with a 2nd & 3rd respectively. Rose Neeley was 4th in the U10 girls. James Caine Raced in the U8 Boys. Matthew Hitchmough featured in the U10 Boys. Also Jacob Jones & William Ryan Finished in the Top 10 in the U16 Boys.
Apologies for the delay in posting very busy week my end with being out every night!
